My Schoolhouse Profile Statistics Have Been Altered
in progress
Romina A
I just went to my Schoolhouse profile and noticed a drop in my Learners Impacted stats. I had 100 learners impacted and now it's 95. Also, the amount of positive ratings I had went down, as well my volunteer hours on the Schoolhouse portfolio. I don't know why. Is this a glitch? Please let me know.

Hi all -- thank you for the patience here. After some data wrangling, we've been able to get a good amount of people's stats back in order.
The number of sessions hosted, learners impacted, and countries impacted should now all be very close to correct for everyone (folks might be missing a few sessions at most).
We weren't able to recover data for tutoring hours, so if you've been significantly affected, we've added a disclaimer to your portfolio.
This is all still a work-in-progress -- we're not quite robust to all kinds of deletion yet, so we're working on some deeper improvements.

My stats decreased as well

Yes, I’m also experiencing this issue

Personally, I went from 85 sessions to 63, which is a very drastic change. I don't really think this has to do with anyone leaving, instead it seems like a glitch probably connected to a recent update that was made in the last week or 2.

Hey Michael -- thanks for your comment & for everyone who commented on the Slack thread. We've been talking a little bit about what we can do to improve here, so I'll reopen this ticket (I also saw there's another canny about this topic as well).
We don't have anything concretely planned at the moment, but we'll try to keep things updated here.

Evan T I am not sure because 50 learners lost is a ton in less then 1 month.

I consider this to be a defect in the platform. I'm copying in what I wrote in a Slack discussion on this issue.
"Why aren't tutoring hours, sessions hosted, countries reached, learners impacted, etc. tied to the tutor's account rather than the learner's, and persisted as tutor data independent from the learner's account? I get needing to delete data related to the learner's account when the learner deletes their account, so the link from the tutor back to the learner may need to be wiped out or replaced with an "Account no longer active" reference. But it doesn't seem fair to tutors if evidence of these interactions with learners gets eliminated from their portfolio.
I would think these metrics should be recorded like points are (or at least how I think points are stored). E.g. if I peer review a certification request from another tutor I get points. Those points don't vanish if that tutor later deletes their account (I don't believe)."
I don't know how this is implemented, but in software sometimes we need to null out a reference in situations like this. E.g. if a record of a session has a reference to a learner, that reference can be replaced with null if the learner leaves. Or replaced to a reference to a generic "Deleted Learner" that allows the table records to remain without the navigation ability back to the learner. Or instead things like Super Helpful and Learners Impacted can just be numbers tied directly to the tutor.
For anyone that is relying on the portfolio feature to reliably track their contributions to Schoolhouse, for college applications or job applications or similar, I don't think it's OK to allow these metrics to decrease anytime a learner deletes their account. There are implementation approaches that can protect the data privacy of the deleted learner while still honoring the hours tutored, learners impacted, and recognitions received by the tutor.
I don't know if Closed requests are monitored for comments. If I don't get any replies I'll open a new issue and be specific in the description that the request is for the implementation that tracks these metrics to change to not be impacted when a learner is deleted.

Hey Romina -- unfortunately I think this can happen sometimes when folks delete sessions or their accounts. Due to data privacy laws we have to delete all data related to the the user's account so sometimes these numbers can go down. Sorry for the inconvenience -- 100 was a very nice round number.
