Integrate Homework Submission Functionality for a SHW Series

I’m currently running an AoPS series, in which homework is an important part to maximize learning. For each session, I post a pdf of exercise problems and then ask learners to submit their responses via a Google Form. After their submission, the form would release my pdf solutions. To make this post-session process easier and more organized, it would be nice if SHW could implement a homework submission functionality, where tutors can review learners’ problem responses (hopefully including some math proofs :), provide some personalized feedback, and also potentially go over some of the missed problems in class. Furthermore, I think that having a centralized place for series and corresponding homework will help learners keep track of material and have a smoother time accessing and completing the exercises.

Doesn't the awesome new Assignments feature accomplish this?! Is it time to mark this post completed?!

I just noticed your post after I had written something similar. I suggested that the users publish the responses pseudonymously (on Scratch Studio announced before, write.as, or edublogs.org). If this would be public, they could also look at and remix the work of others and build a portfolio, while having the healthy pressure to perform well. But I see the point in keeping privacy.

Agree with Minakshi S! It would be easier if it was on SHW. Also, I noticed that as a learner, I have no way to share anything other than text with my tutor(please correct me if this is wrong).
Maybe for a start, we can have a 'Files and Grades' option alongside 'Members', 'Group Chats', etc. where both learners and tutor could share files like pdfs(of course the tutor would have control over this area, but I haven't given much thought to how these files will be monitored). Then, the tutor could share a problem pdf and learners could submit solutions(this would be most helpful for things like proofs and creative writing. For other types of problems, GForms could still be very useful).
We should take care of 2 things here:
- Don't make the homework giving and grading process too complicated for tutors
- Don't make it too daunting for learners(could this mean not making it compulsory to submit your homework?). The more SHW looks and works like a typical school, the less attractive we may look to average students(just a hypothesis)

Can't you just use ThinkWave and/or Google Forms? I've been doing both and it's been pretty great. (for ThinkWave I create their account usernames and passwords and link my anonymous email because an email is required for setup and then hide email visibility from the account page on the student end).

It might be easier (depending on how SHW makes this feature) if it was directly on schoolhouse.

Good idea! Let's see what other tutors & learners think.
