Customizable Age Restriction
Joseph Z
When the newest age restriction came out, it sort of made sense, but now it's just getting more and more complicated for my learners, tutors who want to co-host, and me. Since I will be turning 18 soon, I will be restricted from joining any sessions hosted by tutors under 16, and I am friends with several of them. What I am suggesting is, add a new customizable age restriction setting for younger tutors. They can choose to open or close their series to older learners. We can also apply this setting to more experienced, younger tutors; they must host more than 50 sessions to do this. I hope this makes sense.

Hey Joseph, thanks for sharing. Definitely understand how this restriction will complicate your SHW experience and your suggestions make a lot of sense. Launching our age restrictions were an important part of being proactive about safety here at SHW. And while we don't plan on iterating on our age restrictions this summer, I know there's potential for us to make these restrictions more "relaxed" based on tutoring history. So this is something that we'll definitely keep in mind.

I also agree with this! Even if there are problematic younger tutors, the 50 session requirement would mainly eliminate that since they're more used to the site. I also think it's especially hard for people who joined when they were under 18, but are not restricted because they're turning 18.

I agree with this! I've have so many older tutors have issues joining my sessions (such as onboardings for initiatives) or being able to co-host because of age restrictions. This feature would help keep the safety but also let people to their own safety discretion.

I totally agree! Since I'll also be 18 this year, i won't be able to join many amazing sessions.

I actually find that most of my issues come from younger, more immature learners!

This makes a ton of sense. Being a younger tutor, I haven’t really encountered any problems yet, but I have heard one of my learners, who was an adult learner, was removed from my series

Mattis L Exactly, and guess, what? Once I turn 18 over the summer, I won't be able to join any sessions you host :')

Joseph Z that’s sad. I haven’t had any problems with older learners actually, and like Aarav T said, most of the time it’s younger learners who cause problems in sessions.
